A highly individualized graduate program designed for journalists with substantial professional experience, the course work is tailored to the individual’s professional goals in close consultation with the student’s adviser.

* A veteran journalist interested in entering newsroom management may craft a curriculum that combines journalism theory and newsroom practices courses with graduate classes in the university’s Business and Management Program.

* A general assignment reporter who wants to specialize in environmental issues may take courses at the Environmental Sciences Program. Or an editor who wants to enter teaching may focus on our mass communication theory courses.

This specialization requires the completion of a thesis.  It also requires the completion of 30 credits, which includes six credits in Theory and Research Methods and six credits in thesis preparation. It may be pursued on a part-time basis, although the majority of courses are held on weekdays.
