Associate Dean, Director of Undergraduate Programs and Equity Officer
M.A., MarylandOlive Reid, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs, supervises all operations in Merrill College’s Office for Undergraduate Student Affairs. Her responsibilities span the full range of student services including recruitment, enrollment, advising, and orientation. She also serves as equity officer for the College and as its expert in campus policies, providing assistance to faculty and counseling students with special or emergency needs.
Dean Reid has developed materials and presentations to promote best practices in academic advising, and serves on numerous campus committees including committees that examine and advance methods to improve advising and retention. She has won several campus-wide awards including the Outstanding Academic Adviser award, given by the College Park Association of Parents, and a Minority Achievement Award from the President’s Commission on Ethnic Minority Issues. In 2010, she received the Unsung Hero award from the campus Orientation Office for her outstanding contributions to orientation for new and transfer students.
Each fall semester, Dean Reid teaches freshman journalism majors in a special section of UNIV100, “The Student in the University,” which is a course to assist new students as they join the University Community. She was recognized for outstanding teaching on campus by the Center for Teaching Excellence through their “Celebrating Teachers” event. A native of Connecticut, Dean Reid holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Rutgers University and the M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland.
