The 2009 MSPA Summer Journalism Program, for middle school and high school students was an exciting time
of exploration into the multi-faceted field of journalism. This year's theme was: Change in the Industry - The Impact of New Technology on
the work of journalists.
To augment their classroom experiences, students began each morning with a lecture and discussion delivered by veteran professionals
in the field. The topics discussed by each were: Kevin Klose, Dean, Merrill College of Journalism - The Role of Journalism George Solomon and Jackie Sauter — Industry Changes caused by the internet, blogs, and social networking sites Sandy Banisky — The Legal Implications of Industry Changes and Ethics Ron Yaros — News Delivery on Multiple Platforms
Students learned about the day-to-day operations of the print, broadcast and online journalism while on their field trips at USA Today & WUSA Channel-09.
This year's program was made more exceptional by the outstanding, eager, informed, experienced, curious, and hard-working students.
We hope you enjoy this showcase of the students' work and we look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting a new group of burgeoning young journalists
at the 2010 MSPA Summer Journalism Program!
