Olivia Suttles will join the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism as its recruitment coordinator on Jan. 22.

Suttles, a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, joins the college from the Kroger Co.’s corporate headquarters, where she worked in the grocery merchandising department.

Before that, Suttles was the event and marketing coordinator for Chatfield College near Cincinnati, Ohio. Suttles helped organize events, coordinated with volunteers, designed and created promotional materials and managed social media channels.

“We’re looking forward to Olivia jumping right in as our busy spring recruiting season starts,” Merrill College Dean Lucy Dalglish said. “Olivia is energetic and used to managing complex projects. I know the faculty, staff and students will love working with her.”

Suttles, a member of the first generation in her family to attend college, recalls having little guidance as she navigated the admissions process. She looks forward to being that resource for prospective Merrill College students in her new role.

She will report to acting assistant dean for undergraduate studies Josh Madden.
