COLLEGE PARK (4/29/19) — Maryland voters were targeted by Russia during the run-up to 2016 election in a way unlike those in most other states, University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism students reported this week in a story published by The Washington Post.

Professor Dana Priest, a Post reporter and John S. and James L. Knight Chair in Public Affairs Journalism at Merrill College, led Merrill students Riin Aljas, Scott Gelman and Chinonso Maduforo through the reporting as part of a class.

Aljas and Gelman shared a byline with Priest in the piece, published Thursday. Maduforo is listed as a contributor.

The Capital News Service NewsBIN team, led by lecturer Josh Davidsburg, followed their fellow students and produced a “Behind the Headline” documentary detailing the reporting process.

CNS is the college’s nonprofit, student-staffed news organization with bureaus and news teams in Annapolis, Baltimore, College Park and Washington.

CNS NewsBIN follows Merrill College reporters as they report on Russian Disinformation and how it affected Maryland.
