COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland President Dr. Wallace Loh approved the title Associate Professor Emerita for former Associate Dean Kathy McAdams during the summer of 2014.
President Loh’s decision came thanks to a strong recommendation from Dean Lucy Dalglish and a committee of Merrill College tenured faculty led by Eaton Broadcast Chair – Professor Mark Feldstein.
Dean Dalglish, in a written statement, said:
“As Associate Dean of Merrill College, Kathy determined course offerings, hired top-quality adjunct faculty, worked on curricular changes with faculty and was the college’s representative on the Vice President’s Advisory Committee and the Programs, Curricula and Courses Committee. Her academic leadership included highly effective supervision of more than 15 master’s degree theses, and serving as adviser for 10 Ph.D. students and six students from the individual studies program. Her former students teach at Brigham Young University, Towson University, Morgan State University, Cabrini College, Georgetown University, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and Gallaudet University.
Kathy’s efforts are noteworthy for their contribution to the continued growth of academic excellence at Merrill College and the University of Maryland. They include service on the Strategic Plan Implementation; General Education Task Force; Provost’s Advisory Committee on Living and Learning Communities and Special Programs; and Proposal Review Committee for The Individual Studies Program. While serving as executive director of the College Park Scholars from 1997-2002, Kathy coordinated the activities of 55 faculty and staff members and administered a $1 million budget while serving as executive director of the College Park Scholars from 1997-2002. She later served as Associate Dean in the Office of the Associate Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Studies from 2005-2010.”
