Mejía, who served as the board's inaugural president, is excited to work alongside such a strong and diverse team to set the foundation for the Journalism Alumni Network. As an undergraduate student, Mejía was deeply involved on campus, serving as a student leader with the Society of Professional Journalists, Capital News Service, Student Entertainment Events (SEE), Phi Chi Theta, Terp Thon, Gamma Phi Beta, enTERPreneur and Maryland Images. She was inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega for her academic achievements and extracurricular contributions.

Given her commitment to paying it forward and interest in staying actively involved with the University of Maryland, her vision for the Journalism Alumni Network is to strengthen the relationship between Merrill College faculty, students and alumni in order to create an even deeper support system and sense of belonging beyond campus.
