Sara Browning hails from Washington, D.C., and is finishing her dissertation at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Browning has over a decade of experience as a political correspondent and also engaged in research for numerous D.C. think tanks, including the Hoover Institution and the National Press Club.

At the Hoover Institution, Browning contributed to a book project examining the U.S. border crisis within the context of U.S. immigration history. Browning's work at the National Press Club involved crafting several essays analyzing the kidnapping, assault, torture and killing of journalists in America and across the globe and how many perpetrators walk away with impunity.

She received a competitive Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship for her work in media coverage of Asian immigrants in 2018. Browning has won two conference paper awards and has presented her research at regional, national and international conferences.
