To apply to the Merrill College of Journalism Master’s Program, you’ll need to go to the University of Maryland Graduate School admissions site. Application deadline is Feb. 1.
Broadcast Applicants: Please note that your program starts during summer 2017. However, please be sure to choose Fall 2017 as your entrance date on the general application. The general application does not include summer 2017 as a choice.

To get you started, here’s the basic information you’ll need:
Submit all application materials electronically. You’ll need to include:
- Graduate application;
- Undergraduate transcripts;
- GRE scores;
- Statement of purpose;
- Three letters of recommendation submitted electronically;
- Three writing samples that can include clips, broadcast packages (YouTube/Vimeo links), etc.;
- Non-refundable application fee (currently $75.00).
The Application Process
Completed applications are reviewed by an admissions committee at the Merrill College of Journalism. The recommendations of the committee are then submitted to the UMD Graduate School for a final admission decision. Students seeking to complete graduate work at the University of Maryland for degree purposes must be formally admitted to the Graduate School.
