Howard Fellow Bailey Scott is a graduate student from St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Boston University in 2026 with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. At BU, Scott fell in love with data journalism, especially the giant spreadsheets of government data that he finds often contain interesting and impactful stories.

Scott has written for The Daily Free Press, BU’s student-run newspaper, where he was its first-ever data editor; The Waltham Times, a local nonprofit where he covered education; and The Brink, BU’s science magazine. He has covered everything from a community’s response to ICE in their city to which streets have the most bike crashes in Boston to how BU is addressing student mental health.

At the Howard Center, Scott is ready to improve his data skills for investigative reporting and dive into some spreadsheets. In particular, he is interested in using his data skills to write stories about abuses of power in government. In his free time, Scott enjoys playing ultimate frisbee and reading as much science fiction and fantasy as he possibly can.
