Daria Davydova
davydova@umd.eduDaria Davydova (Danilova) is a journalist, editor, podcast producer and researcher with more than 20 years of experience across print, radio, television and digital media. Her work examines censorship, political repression, disinformation, wartime propaganda and the erosion of independent journalism, with particular attention to how authoritarian systems control information during periods of crisis.
Davydova has reported for Novaya Gazeta, Russian Reporter, Silver Rain Radio, City FM, Kommersant FM and Voice of America’s Russian Service. Her reporting has covered politics and human rights in Russia, as well as Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Since 2019, her work has focused on podcasting. She has produced more than 25 podcast series spanning daily news, talk shows, documentary narratives and true crime. "Don’t Interrupt," which Daria co-created, was named one of Apple Podcasts’ Best Podcasts in Russia in 2019.
At the UMD Philip Merrill College of Journalism, Davydova developed a course on censorship in Russian media. She also teaches the course, JOUR130: Self-Presentation in the Age of YouTube.
