Kenzie Nguyễn
nguyen86@umd.eduKenzie Nguyễn is a Vietnamese-American born and raised in Minneapolis. Growing up in large immigrant communities, she has collected many stories on homelands, hardships and adventures, which sparked her love for storytelling. In 2022, Nguyễn began her journalism career at The Olaf Messenger, St. Olaf College’s student-run newspaper. She covered stories ranging from community features to student-led movements. There, she found a passion for uplifting underrepresented voices and shedding light on the truth to better inform the public. In 2026, Nguyễn graduated from St. Olaf with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a minor in Race and Ethnic Studies.
Throughout her undergraduate years, Nguyễn also interned at Her Campus and Punchbowl News, where she got hands-on experience covering Congress and the 2024 presidential election. These experiences solidified her love for journalism, and pushed her to pursue more hands-on learning at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism master's program. As a Howard fellow, Nguyễn is excited to work alongside her peers and develop her reporting skills. She dreams of becoming a reporter and producer, working as a team on long-form investigative stories.
Outside of journalism, Nguyễn enjoys endless rewatches of the same three sitcoms, playing board games and perfecting the best at-home coffee.
