Mikayla Newton

Mikayla Newton joined the Philip Merrill College of Journalism's adjunct faculty during the 2023-24 spring semester. She’s a Georgia native and graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in journalism and a minor in Spanish.

Before becoming a part of University of Maryland's adjunct faculty, Newton worked for DC News Now as a reporter/anchor. She also worked at CNN as an associate producer and cross-platform production assistant, and spent time as a weekend morning anchor/reporter in New York for WETM-TV.

When Newton isn’t working, she loves traveling, cooking, trying new activities, reading and writing, indulging in self-care, spending time with her family and serving the community.

Newton is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
