Rio Tuasikal
tuasikal@umd.eduRio Tuasikal is a doctoral student at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. He is interested in how new and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence reshape journalism practices, political news and the audiences.
He worked for 12 years as a reporter, producer and researcher for Indonesian, American and British newsrooms, including Voice of America, Pulitzer Center and The Gecko Project. In 2025, he co-led a one-year journalism project and photo exhibition that documented the impact of AI on Indonesian workers, and was awarded excellence in technology reporting by the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA).
Tuasikal has presented his research at conferences in Indonesia and published a peer-reviewed paper in Asian Journal of Media and Communications (AJMC).
