Tom Oates ’94
Tom Oates ’94 is a seasoned strategic portfolio and project manager, specializing in communications, project operations and team leadership. Oates majored in broadcast journalism and spent nearly 15 years in radio and television newsrooms, earning two Emmy Awards and two Associated Press first place awards as local sportscaster working in Washington, D.C., Colorado, Wisconsin and Tennessee.
Oates' career path outside of journalism includes leading client-focused multimedia production, federal agency project management, and helping set cross-functional operations and strategy for a national nonprofit building partnerships across sports, music and entertainment.
Oates' journey began at Maryland’s WMUC radio, where he served as sports director in 1994. He is a certified project management professional and PROSCI Change Management practitioner. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia, enjoys health and fitness, and is a struggling Italian language student.
