Aigerim Toleukhanova
Aigerim Toleukhanova is a Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Prior to joining Merrill College, she worked in journalism, market research and the financial services sector. Toleukhanova is a former digital editor at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Kazakh-language service and has contributed as a freelance journalist to Foreign Policy, The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, The Diplomat and EurasiaNet, among others. She also worked as an adjunct lecturer at KIMEP University, teaching a course on data storytelling for undergraduate and graduate students.
Her previous research was focused on journalism education, internet regulation, and press and media freedom. Her current research interests include the issues of marginal communities within social justice movements, gender, media representation, digital activism and political communication.
