COLLEGE PARK — Calling all aspiring journalists and storytellers! The University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism is hosting its first annual Digital Storytelling Summer Camp, offering Maryland high school students (grades 9-12) an opportunity to develop their storytelling skills using cutting-edge digital tools and platforms.
Increasingly, digital stories are transforming society. This camp will not only empower students to explore the world creatively — it will also equip them with powerful tools for presenting ideas and producing media content that stands out.
The camp was made possible by a generous gift from a Merrill College alum.

Camp Highlights:
- Learn from the Pros: Students will participate in workshops led by experienced media professionals and Merrill College faculty.
- Hands-On Activities: From creating photo essays and podcasts, to conducting interviews and producing short films and data visualizations, campers will learn by doing.
- Portfolio Building: Students will curate their digital stories into a personalized online portfolio to showcase what they’ve learned.
- Creative Exploration: The camp fosters a collaborative environment where students can experiment and develop their unique storytelling voice while exploring the University of Maryland.
