Mohamed Salama

Mohamed Salama is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, with particular focus on computational analysis of media narratives. A former Fulbright Scholar at the University of Kentucky, he investigates the synthesis of journalism with computational and data-driven methods to study how the press constructs and disseminates narratives related to conflict, historical memory, racialized violence and state repression. 

Salama has over 10 years of journalism experience working with local and international news outlets, which provides grounding for his research in newsroom practice and cross-border journalism. His research portfolio also extends to press freedom and journalist safety, as well as the dynamics of transnational media networks operating in exile.
