Jamaal Abdul-Alim, also known as Professor J, is a veteran journalist whose articles have appeared in The Atlantic, Washington Monthly and Education Week, to name a few.
He broke into the news business in the 1990s as a crime reporter at the old Milwaukee Sentinel during his undergraduate years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has worked as a staff writer at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Youth Today and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. He has also served as education editor for The Conversation.
He is the founding editor of sneakertheory.org and is a member of the 2024-25 class of Us@250 fellows at New America.
