Rob Wells Book Talk: 'The Insider: How the Kiplinger Newsletter Bridged Washington and Wall Street'

12:30 p.m.

Location: Knight Hall 3202

Join us to hear Merrill College Associate Professor Rob Wells discuss his new book, "The Insider: How the Kiplinger Newsletter Bridged Washington and Wall Street."

Wells will discuss legendary journalist Willard Kiplinger and how his reporting career offers lessons for digital journalism, and people looking to launch their own news website or YouTube channel. Kiplinger's career offers many reporting tips, since he cultivated senior politicians and business leaders dating to World War I.

The heart of the book examines Kiplinger's journalism during the New Deal, where he played an important role in the broader movement to rescue capitalism during the Great Depression. Kiplinger helped bridge Washington and Wall Street since he urged businesses to accept the new federal government regulation. Kiplinger worked behind the scenes and influenced Franklin Roosevelt's key advisor, the Treasury Secretary and many others. The book examines journalism, politics, history, business and more.

Special thanks to Robin Sundaramoorthy for hosting the talk with her JOUR 200: Journalism History class. A limited supply of books will be available for purchase after the talk.
