  • Eleven Merrill Students Honored as Capital News Service Wins 12 MDDC Awards

    COLLEGE PARK -- The University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism’s Capital News Service won 12 awards and had 11 individual students recognized in this year’s Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia Press Association contest. CNS, staffed by Merrill College students and led by faculty members, competed against professional news organizations in the annual contest. All work was entered in Division O, for online-only news organizations.

  • Dr. Kathleen Kelly, former Merrill College staff member and University of Florida professor emerita, dies at 77

    Dr. Kathleen Kelly, a University of Maryland alumna who worked at UMD, died at age 77 on April 28 in St. Augustine, Florida, after a long struggle with COPD. During her time at Maryland, Kelly served as the development director at the then-College of Journalism and held various other positions on campus.

  • Brendan Hartlove to Serve as Merrill's Spring 2021 Student Commencement Speaker

    COLLEGE PARK -- Graduating senior Brendan Hartlove will be the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism’s Spring 2021 student commencement speaker, Dean Lucy A. Dalglish announced Tuesday. Hartlove was selected in a vote by Merrill’s graduating seniors.
